Local Activities

The North Canterbury area is teeming with activity options. If you have your own car, these are easily accessible with many only 30 minutes or less to drive to. If you have arrived without a car, we are more than happy to take you into town for dinner, to the supermarket, or to Waipara for a wine trail! See below for some of our suggestions for things to do during your stay.

Ohoka Farmers Market produce

Ohoka Farmers Market

The Ohoka Farmers Market is a must visit if you are with us on a Friday. It runs every Friday morning, all year round, regardless of the weather. The market is a place where many different small food artisans and artisan crafters gather to sell their products. So if fresh, local, ethical, sustainable and nutritious foods sounds like your cup of tea, or you love to peruse local arts and crafts, then this should definitely be on your itinerary.

Wine tasting in Waipara

Wine Tasting

The Homestead is only a 30 minute drive from the renowned Waipara wine region. This area is definitely worth a visit. With around 12 cellar doors only a sort distance from each other it makes for a great wine trail. Four of the wineries offer fabulous food options, so make sure you stop for lunch. Christchurch dining and restaurants

Restaurants & Dining

There are many restaurants and cafes only a short drive away. Rangiora is a 9 minute drive from the Homestead and has a variety of restaurants and ethnic cuisines on hand. Christchurch city also has a plethora of restaurants and bars. If you do not have transport we are more than happy to drive you into town. We just recommend booking ahead at the restaurant, as many of the popular ones can book up quite quickly!

Christchurch tram - activities near Ohoka

Christchurch City

Christchurch CBD is only a 30 minute drive from the Homestead. If you’re after some shopping or sightseeing, a trip into the city is well worth it. Meander through the ever-changing central city, walk or punt along the Avon River, ride the Tram, visit the Riverside Market, and check out the eclectic art works that are now feature of thus re-building city.

The Christchurch Gondola is a great activity for the whole family, and offers spectacular views over the city and Banks Peninsula. New Brighton and Sumner are the key beach locations and are amazing on a nice day.

Day trips from Inglewood Homestead

Day Trips

Hanmer Springs is a 1.5 hour drive north, the perfect distance for a day trip. Soak in the hot pools, have a massage, or try one of the many walking and cycling trails on offer.

Methven is also 1.5 hours away, to the south. Methven is the town that services Mt Hutt Ski Field. So in winter you can hit the slopes.

The quaint, French-inspired town of Akaroa is 1 hour and 40 minutes from the Homestead. This is lovely place for a day trip, and is renowned for whale watching and swimming with the dolphins.
